Description

An overnight stay for two people at the beautiful French Lick Resort, including breakfast in The Colonnade. The package also includes an hour-long guided tour for two, by the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, of the recently restored historic French Lick Springs Hotel and the West Baden Springs Hotel, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
French Lick Springs Resort rests on some 2,600 acres in the breathtaking Hoosier National Forest. Originally founded in 1832, this resort has grown from a ramshackle building to the current facility which includes 470 rooms and boasts two superb golf courses. It was at this hotel that, in 1917, the world famous chef, Louis Perrin, first served tomato juice, and it was here in this hotel that, in 1931, Franklin D. Roosevelt rounded up support at a Democratic Governor’s Conference for the party’s presidential nomination.  Today badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, croquet, stables, and two swimming pools (including a spacious bubble enclosed one) are among the many activities offered.  Its famous mineral baths and massages await the pleasure of guests.
Built in 1902, the Baden Springs Hotel was a magnificent site. Featuring a six-story domed atrium the resort drew celebrities from all around the country. Well-known patrons to the hotel were "Diamond Jim" Brady and Al Capone. Professional baseball teams such as the Chicago White Sox and Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds held spring training on the baseball field located on the 250 acres that made up the property. In 1996, Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana (HLFI), the largest nonprofit organization in the state, whose purpose is to preserve and protect historic buildings along with educating the public on the value of historic places, purchased the property in the hopes of preserving part of it and protecting it from more ruin, as well as attracting a buyer who could put the landmark to use in some capacity.
