Description

Celebrate the impact of baseball's history with this Negro League memorabilia packet: a polished wood baseball with Negro Baseball Museum logo and its own stand; a copy of Kansas City Monarchs, autographed by the author; a copy of Fair Ball! 14 Great Stars From Baseball's Negro Leagues; a reproduction of the Kansas City Monarchs 1942 baseball cap; and a "Stuck On Buck" lapel pin issued to honor the late John "Buck" O'Neil.
Before Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier, great black players met on their own field of dreams in the Negro Leagues. The Negro National League was organized in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1920. The Kansas City Monarchs also organized in 1920 and survived the entire 35-year span of black baseball. The Homestead Grays club was a storied franchise with Hall of Famers Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, and James "Cool Papa" Bell leading the Grays to 9 consecutive Negro National League championships and 3 Negro World Series titles. Today, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is the flagship for the redevelopment of 18th & Vine, the historic black neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri.
