      One of the most famous small towns in the country, Red Cloud, Nebraska, has the largest number of national historically designated sites devoted to a single author in America, including 610 acres of native prairie.   Willa Cather (1873-1947) spent her formative years in Red Cloud. She is among the most eminent American authors, and known for her depictions of U.S. life in novels such as O Pioneers!, My Ántonia, and Death Comes for the Archbishop, winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1922 for One of Ours.  In 1973, Willa Cather was honored by the United States Postal Service with her image on a postage stamp.
