Enjoy a private behind-the-scenes tour for four persons of Lincoln Cottage, the Lincoln summer retreat home where President Lincoln and his family spent a quarter of his presidency, led by the Cottage Director Dr. Frank Milligan. Also, enjoy a private lunch on the grounds. The site is currently closed to the public.
Dr. Milligan will lead your "hard hat" tour of this remarkable historic site that will officially open to the public in February 2008. Following your tour you will be treated to a driving tour of the 300-acre historic Soldiers Home grounds and a private lunch at "Quarters Two," a grand mid-19th century home lived in by President Buchanan and Lincoln's Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton. Your hosts for the lunch will be Dr. Milligan and Lincoln Cottage Curator Erin Mast.
The National Trust, in cooperation with the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home, leads the effort to restore and develop the President Lincoln and Soldiers' Home National Monument in Washington, DC. The Monument will open to the public in 2008 as the country's premier center for learning about the Lincoln presidency.
