Description

Four tickets to see the H. L. Hunley during weekend tours.
The H.L. Hunley was a submarine of the Confederate States Navy. In 1864, as an experimental vessel and the world’s first successful submarine, it sank an enemy ship, the USS Housatonic, by ramming its spar torpedo into its hull off Charleston, SC. After briefly surfacing to signal a successful mission to the shore crew, the H.L. Hunley vanished into the sea without a trace. Thanks to modern science, the Hunley was located and raised in 2000. This site, and its scientists, explore the technology of this unique ship and continue to investigate the mystery of her disappearance.
