Description
"The Story of the Incredible Orchestra" is a child's introduction to musical instruments and the symphony orchestra by author/illustrator Bruce Koscielniak. On the front of this Channel Two pillowcase Koscielniak has drawn 10 symphony players and 11 instruments. (It looks like someone "doubles" on the harp! Channel Two, by the way, is well known for its television broadcasts of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops concerts.)
While this blend of colorful pastels is eye-catching and would be a unique addition to a music room or library, it could also be an interesting teaching tool for a young and growing musician or music lover. The picture could answer a myriad of questions. How many woodwinds are shown? Are there two violins or a violin and a viola? What is the difference? Which are the two percussion instruments? What kinds of horns are those? Is that a flute or a piccolo? If you don't know the answers to these questions, you ought to buy The Story of the Incredible Orchestra as well. The pillowcase illustration is about 21 by 31 inches and is signed by the illustrator in the lower left.
About the Illustrator: Bruce Koscielniak is the author and illustrator of several books for children; he is also a musician who has played the violin and jazz guitar for many years. He lives in the Berkshires region of Mass.
