Description

This colorful and extremely detailed drawing of a 17th-century sailing ship is by the internationally renowned children's book author and illustrator Ilse Plume. Ms. Plume specializes in illustrating books, songs and folk tales from other countries, inspired by her grandfather's tales from around the world.

She has shown her work at the Decordova Museum and has taught at the School for The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

This 17th-century sailing ship illustration is the most detailed of all the illustrations we are offering in this 25 pillowcase art collection. It's approximately 8 by 8.5 inches and is from the cover of "Salt, A Russian Folktale," a novel by Jane Langton. (Ms. Langton's own illustration of Canada Geese is #11 in our collection.)

This is a truly fine work or art, capable of standing on its own, even if it were not associated with an outstanding children's book.

About the Illustrator: Ilse Plume is a widely published children's book author and illustrator. Her works include The Farmer in the Dell, The Queen's Necklace, Lullaby and Goodnight, The Christmas Witch, The Velveteen Rabbit, and The Bremen-Town Musicians (1980 Caldecott Honor Book). Exhibitions have been at the Lincoln (MA) Public Library, the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. She has taught Radcliff seminars and at the DeCordova Museum School, and led a workshop at the Split Rock Arts Program at University of Minnesota in 2005.
