Description

In the 19th century the German craftsman Michael Thonet experimented with bending beech wood at high temperatures and engineering molds to shape his materials in new and unexpected ways. Today, the Thonet-inspired Holz Chair, exclusive to DWR keeps the bentwood tradition alive with up-to-date verve in four vibrant colors. Framed in curving, steam-bent beech wood and beech veneers reminiscent of the Thonet's Hairpin café chair and inspired by a chair of Secessionist Josef Hoffman, the Holz Chair is scaled for greater comfort with a broad seat pan that provides ease for bodies of all sizes. The back apron is also modernized, whimsically perforated with 12 circular holes that are both visually arresting and maintain air circulation. The chair's legs subtly flare and are bound by a curved rail support.
