About the artist:

After establishing a modest reputation as a portraitist and figure painter on the East Coast in the l970's Stephen E. Gibson stopped painting for 25 years. He reports that at that time he found the discipline was a lonesome one. So it should be no surprise that his work is virtually unknown in California. However, things have changed for Mr. Gibson. Stephen became seriously ill, and was hospitalized and diagnosed with a chronic debilitating disease. He says that suddenly it became clear to him that he had some art to complete. Now, when he paints he no longer has a sense of isolation; rather, he says he senses both a deep connection with his subject and with godliness. He says that he knows that he is doing exactly what he should be doing.
