The shapes in Ewald's paintings are fabrications of architectural leanings, or mannequin like figures that occupy the total space allowed for paint. The chief element of any of his paintings is an angularity that forms the subject matter, combined with soft calligraphic references.

Michael Ewald was born in upstate New York. He receive a BA in Art from SUNY University in Plattsburgh. In addition to his art commissions in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Miami, Michael works on design projects for Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Escada, Yves Saint Laurent, Armani and Liz Claiborne in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
