Description
The ancient technique of glass fusing is used to create this unique line of products. Fused glass can be traced back to the workshops of the Egyptians and Persians over 5000 years ago. This piece of artglass begins its transformation from a piece of clear float glass. The blank is then decorated with powdered glass. After the design is drawn, the glass is placed on a form and put into the kiln to be fired.
The high temperature fuses the enamels and softens the glass which then assumes the shape of the mold. All the pieces are then annealed and gradually cooled to insure strength. Laminates are composed of two pieces of glass with enamels on the inner surfaces. By careful design, air bubbles are trapped between the layers of glass. I have learned to control this effect through temperature manipulation. The result is an individual piece of art, suitable for display and day-to-day use.
The surfaces are non-toxic and food safe. You can wash your piece in the dishwasher and treat it as you would any fine glassware.
This enameled glass plate was created by artist Richard Knopf.
