Jacobsen was America's folk art hero, recognized for his unsurpassed contributions to the nation's maritime history. During a painting career of over 45 years, from 1873 to 1919, his paintings covered the transition from the age of sail to steam. The artist spent most of his life in NJ, maintaining a home in West Hoboken.
