Description

Travel to the Cradle of Man. Ethiopia's often torturous past dates back 2,000 years. Home to the Queen of Sheba and the supposed resting place for the "Ark of the Covenant." Lost Frontiers International, a pioneer in tribal and ethnic travel in Asia, the Middle East and Africa is offering a custom deluxe tour for two persons to one of the world's most exotic counties - Ethiopia. During your 14-day in-country tour, you will visit Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's lively capital. You will travel to Lake Tana, Ethiopia's largest, highest lake and source of the Blue Nile, housing beautifully painted 15th century monasteries on a network of islands. The ancient capital of Gondar is littered with Portuguese castles. On to Axum, ancient capital of the mighty Axumite Empire is the site of mysterious steles and the supposed bathhouse of the Queen of Sheba. Visit the Cathedral of Tsion Mariam, spiritual home of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and said to be the resting place of the Ark of the Covenant. Medieval Lalibela, the 8th Wonder of the World, where some 800 years ago King Lalibella ordered the construction of more than 23 rock-hewn churches built with the help of the 'Angel Gabriel.' Your tour ends with a visit to the walled city of Harar, the spiritual heart of Ethiopia's Muslim community: the last home of the French poet and gunrunner Rimbaud, its market is one of Africa's most colorful.

Travel at your convenience. The best time would be from late September to early March. Tour package includes: all transfers, hotel accommodations, all meals (exception is breakfast only during the 3 days in Addis Ababa), entrance fees, English speaking guide, portage fees, all taxes, bottled water. Not included: international airfare to and from Addis, alcoholic beverages, personal expenses such as telephone calls, laundry etc; tips for guides or drivers.
