More About Simon Pearce Glassworks
It may come as a surprise to some that Simon Pearce is an actual person and not just a well-known custom trademark for high quality glassware and pottery. Raised in County Cork Ireland, Simon Pearce began his career in glass at the Royal College of Art in London and worked in some of Europe's most renowned glass houses.
In 1981, he moved his operations to Quechee, Vermont, where he completed a restoration of an historic woolen mill and harnessed the hydro-power of the Ottauguechee River to fuel his glass furnace. Visitors to The Mill can view the hydroelectric turbine on The Mill's lower level, observe the teams of glassblowers, watch a potter working on the wheel, browse in the retail shop and enjoy a meal in the restaurant.
In 1993, a 32,000 square foot glass manufacturing facility was built in Windsor, Vermont, more than doubling the company's glass production. Four years later, in 1997, a new pottery was opened on the Windsor site, after a fire destroyed the 100 year old barn that housed the Simon Pearce pottery in Hartland, Vermont. Today, visitors to Windsor can observe teams of glassblowers crafting clear glass pieces, see pottery being made and shop for glass and pottery along side tabletop accessories.
The fall of 2000 brought the opening of the newest Simon Pearce facility. Located at the site of the former Lenape Inn on the banks of the Brandywine River in West Chester, PA. This facility is the only other one to replicate the workshop/retail/restaurant concept of the original site in Quechee, Vermont.
