On October 27, 2004, the 86 year old curse was exorcized.  With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, leading 3-0 on the scoreboard and 3 games to none in the series, Red Sox reliever Keith Foulke fielded a ground ball off the bat of Edgar Renteria.  Foulke tossed it carefully to first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz to record the final out of the 2004 World Series, crowning the Red Sox World Series Champions.
