Thank you to WEIMAX Wines in Burlingame for this great pair of Oregon Pinot!!!
1999 is Panther Creek's first vintage with Archery Summit's Arcus Estate in the Red Hills above Dundee, Oregon. The soil type is Jory. The wine is a blend of Dijon clones (114, 667, 777 and 828) which were co-fermented and barreled-down together. It is lighter in style than most Panther Creek Pinots, but beautifully balanced and exceedingly elegant and complex. Our Arcus is all red fruit (especially raspberries) on the palate, with lovely spice and earthy components. We produced only 200 cases of Arcus, and bottled it March 5, 2001, after aging 16 months in 15% new French oak.
We had the opportunity to get a small amount of Pinot from this Red Hills site for the 1999 vintage only; a one-shot deal, and we took it. This Pommard clone Pinot produced sweet, ripe red fruits on the palate; an ebullient wine that will drink beautifully young, with some cellar potential. We produced only 340 cases of Knight's Gambit, and bottled it March 8, 2001, after aging 16 months in 30% new French oak.
