Description
From 1980 to 1991, Harriette Forbes-Oliver produced felt-tip, life-size, portrait sketches of guests at St. Luke's Soup Kitchen. These sketches were created on newsprint and have been exhibited in Atlanta and New York. They are signed by the artist and bear the name of the Guest.
Harriette was born in Atlanta in 1907. In 1933, she married and spent the next 30 years in New York where she studied art under Walter Quirt. She had several solo art shows including the Norlyst Gallery, Crespi Gallery, and the Ligoa Duncan Gallery in New York. In Atlanta she showed at the High Museum of Art, The Atlanta Art Workers Coalition, the Atlanta College of Art, and Callendwalde and the Spruell Arts Centers. She died in Atlanta in 1995 at the age of 88.
