John James Audubon was born in Les Cayes, Haiti in 1785, and lived in France until spending much of his adult life in the United States. It was in Pennsylvania where his fascination with birds and wildlife grew rampant. Audubon recorded about 1,065 different bird species, many of which were drawn from wildlife that Audubon had captured himself.
