Ohio native son, Eric Snow is currently in his second full season with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers after spending the past five seasons (6.5 overall) as team captain of the Philadelphia 76ers. The former Canton- McKinley Bulldog and Michigan State University star is regarded as one of the team's on and off-the-court leaders and is the starting point guard. Eric is also currently serving his second year as Captain.

Born on April 24, 1973 in Canton, Ohio, Eric was drafted in the second round (43rd pick overall) by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1995. Before joining the Philadelphia 76ers in 1998, Eric spent two full seasons with the Seattle Supersonics as the understudy of future Hall of Fame point guard, Gary Payton. Though his stay in Seattle would only last a short time, Snow was a part of the Sonics team that made it to the NBA Finals in 1996. Eric would also make another appearance NBA Finals (this time as a starter) during the 2001 season as one of the stars and Co-Captain on the magical 76ers team that featured Hall of Fame Coach, Larry Brown as well as future Hall of Fame and 2-time league scoring champion, Allen Iverson.

In addition to a stellar 10-year NBA career, which included his selection to the All-NBA Defensive Second Team and consistent mention as one of the top point guards in the league, Eric has also received national recognition for his community involvement and philanthropy. Through his "Shoot For The Moon Foundation, which he founded in 1997 to encompass his vision and commitment to children and families, Eric is responsible for over $120,000 in donations to the community. Most recently, Snow was responsible for nearly $60,000 going to the Gulf Coast victims of the Katrina Hurricane.

Eric continues to remain very active in the community. His goal is to assist those in need and does so annually conducting an Annual Turkey Drive in for the residents of his hometown in Canton each November followed by an Annual Holiday Toy Drive and Caravan whereby he distributes hundreds of toys during the Christmas and Kwanzaa holiday season.

His most passionate efforts however are in using his foundation as a vehicle for creative ways to assist fathers and families. Under the banner, "Eric's Fatherhood Challenge" he has a number of community programs including: (1) Steals and Assists Donation Program where he pledges $20 per assist and per steal that he earns each regular season, which is later donated to a local grassroots fatherhood organizations in the Canton, Cleveland, or Northeast Ohio regions (2) Full Court Fathers Contest, and (3) Annual Fatherhood Basketball Clinic. These last two programs are collaborations with the Cleveland Cavaliers (www.clevelandcavaliers.com) and are designed specifically to target fathers and help them improve their relationships with their children and families. Last September Eric completed his 1st Annual Celebrity Golf Outing and Silent Auction at the Walden Country Inn of Aurora, OH. The 2-day event, which is scheduled for September 10th-11th, 2006 featured current and former NBA as well as NFL stars and legends. Eric, now a father of three boys (E.J., Darius, and Jarren) is committed to using his foundation as a vehicle to represent a more positive image of fathers nationally and especially in the NBA.

Eric Snow remains acknowledged as one of the premiere leaders among today's NBA players both on and off the court. As a well-respected NBA veteran and community ambassador, Eric has been called on many times to provide leadership and representation for the league. In 2002, Snow was asked by the NBA to join Mayor John Street as host and spokesperson during the 2002 All-Star game hosted in that city and later, he was elected as Vice President of the NBA Players Association (NBAPA), a post he has held for the past two years.

Eric also continues to be recognized for his leadership in the community. In addition to receiving the NBA Sportsmanship Award (Joe Dumars Trophy), Eric was joined in San Antonio Texas by other notable public figures including Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, Minnesota Vikings owner Redd McCombs, and Multi-platinum Country recording group, "Lone Star" to accept the National Fatherhood Award issued by the National Fatherhood Initiative. He was also awarded another Fatherhood Award by the Father's Day Rally Committee, a local grassroots organization in Philadelphia with a two-decade history of providing high quality community support for fathers and later the Millennium DAD award by Foundation 2000, Inc, an organization with an impressive history of providing positive programs for fathers in the Camden, Atlantic City, and southern New Jersey communities.

In just his first season in Cleveland, Snow was recognized with the Alfred J. Lerner Community Award, the city's top honor to a public figure or athlete who demonstrates and outstanding commitment to community service. During the 2005 NBA Weekend Gala in Denver, Colorado, he was the recipient of the league's Community Contribution Award (an honor given to only 5 of the 450 NBA players). This past April, Snow received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, presented annually by the Professional Basketball Writers Association. The award, named for the league's second commissioner, is the oldest citizenship and community service award in the NBA. It is generally regarded nationally as the NBA's highest honor for service and has a recipient that includes NBA greats such as Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Joe Dumars, Dikembe Mutombo, and Reggie Miller (last season's recipient). He is the second Cavalier to win the award (Austin Carr 1979-80) and the third Michigan State Alumnus to be honored with the award (Magic Johnson 1991-92 and Steve Smith (1997-98).

Eric has also teamed up with his wife DeShawn who shares his commitment to strengthening families through strong parental participation, spiritual awareness, and support. During their time in Philadelphia, DeShawn served as a board member of the city's Maternity Care Coalition, an organization dedicated to mothers and family development. Through her efforts, the MCC was successful in heightening the awareness of maternity care for mothers in urban communities. Eric matched his wife's commitment to assisting urban mothers-to-be by donating the entire proceeds of his earnings (a total of $5,000) from the Fleer Shootout during the 2002 NBA All-Star weekend to the MCC.

Mrs. Snow also makes numerous community appearances with her husband, runs a successful real estate company in Atlanta, GA (www.edjproperties.com), and serves as the Executive Director of Snow's Shoot for the Moon Foundation. As a husband-wife team, the Snows are regular participants in many of the NBA's community outreach initiatives including the league's Read to Achieve Programs. They are also members of Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church (www.newbirth.com) which is also located in Atlanta, GA.
