Terri Hamilton Brown is director of Corporate Diversity at National City and serves as the single point of contact for National City diversity and workforce inclusion programs, policies and procedures.
She works directly with the Office of the Chair on diversity and inclusion matters, including advising and collaborating with executive management on strategy development, leading diversity recruiting efforts and implementing activities to increase manager and employee awareness of workplace diversity and EEO work practices. She also serves as an internal consultant to business unit leaders on diversity and community issues and develops and engages in community programs and activities that support the corporation's diversity goal.
Ms. Brown came to National City in 2005 after a two-year stint as president of University Circle Incorporated. (UCI), a nonprofit organization with a staff of more than 200 and an $18 million budget. UCI was formed to foster initiatives that position University Circle as one of the world's premier urban districts. Its reach included a police department, transportation system, parking and real estate management, community planning and development and community education during her tenure.
Brown has more than 15 years experience working in Northeast Ohio. She was formerly the executive director of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) where she was widely credited with the organization's successful turn-around. Brown joined CMHA in 1998 and was responsible for providing affordable housing, safety and social services to approximately 50,000 public housing and Section 8 residents.
Prior to joining CMHA, Brown spent eight years with the City of Cleveland Department of Community Development, initially establishing the Housing Construction Office and later serving as Director. She also served as a development officer for the Cleveland office of Enterprise Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to making affordable housing available to low-income families.
Brown is significantly involved in her community, serving as a board member of The Cleveland Foundation, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, The First Tee of Cleveland, Gilmour Academy, In Council With Women and the President's Council Foundation. In addition, she is an advisor to the Northeast Ohio think tank Policy Bridge, serves on United Way Services' Strategic Planning Committee and as an independent director of the Housing Authority Insurance Group.
She has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a master's degree in city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a Cleveland native.
