David W. Whitehead is Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Chief Ethics Officer of FirstEnergy. The Real Estate, Facilities & Security Department, Enterprise Records Management Department, and Corporate Department also report to Mr. Whitehead.


Previously, Mr. Whitehead served as Regional Vice President for the Northern Region of FirstEnergy's Illuminating Company subsidiary, with responsibility for customer account services, customer support services, and external relations. Prior to the 1997 merger of Ohio Edison and Centerior Energy that formed FirstEnergy, Mr. Whitehead served as Regional Vice President of Centerior's Central Region, with responsibility for most aspects of the company's operations in the Cleveland area. Mr. Whitehead also served as Director of Governmental Affairs for Centerior and as general counsel for The Illuminating Company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Whitehead served as an environmental attorney and was involved in several industry proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. He was named Vice President and Chief Ethics Officer in 2001 and Corporate Secretary in 2003.


Mr. Whitehead is involved in many professional and civic organizations in the Greater Cleveland area. He is a member of the Board and Executive Committees of United Way Services, a member of the Board of Trustees of Cuyahoga Community College, as well as Chairman of United Way's Strategic Planning Committee, and a board member of the Cleveland State University Foundation, the First Tee of Cleveland, and Cleveland Scholarship Programs, Inc. He is on the Leadership Cleveland Board of Trustees and is a past chairman of its Alumni Steering Committee. David also serves as president of the Board of Park Commissioners for Cleveland Metroparks. He is a past president of Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association, and a past president and board member of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.
Mr. Whitehead received his Bachelor of Arts and law degrees from Cleveland State University.
