Thomas F. Zenty III has been President and Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals Health System (UHHS) since March 2003. He presides over a system that, with its partnership hospitals, serves patients at more than 150 locations.
University Hospitals Health System is the region's second largest private employer with eleven hospitals, over 20,000 employees and 3,000 physicians and the largest network of primary care physicians and outpatient centers in northeast Ohio. The System also includes a network of specialty care physicians, skilled nursing, elder health, assisted living, rehabilitation and home care services, and a self-insured professional liability insurance and managed care corporations. The System's 947-bed, tertiary medical center, University Hospitals of Cleveland, is a teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University. Together, they form the largest center for biomedical research in the State of Ohio. University Hospitals of Cleveland enjoys some of the most prestigious clinical and research centers of excellence in the country and the world including cancer, pediatrics, women's health, orthopedics and spine, radiology and radiation oncology, neurosurgery and neuroscience, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, organ transplantation and human genetics.
Prior to assuming leadership of UHHS, Mr. Zenty served at Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles, where he was Executive Vice President for Clinical Care Services and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai Health System in 1995, he held health care leadership roles in multi-hospital organizations in Arizona, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Mr. Zenty was a Doctoral Candidate at New York University; he received a Masters in Public Administration from New York University and a Masters in Health Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati; and a Bachelor of Science in Health Planning and Administration from Pennsylvania State University; and completed the Executive Education Program in Competition and Strategy from Harvard University.
Mr. Zenty maintains many professional and community affiliations, is a board member and past board chair of several for-profit and non-profit organizations, and has led numerous civic development activities.
