Deborah is currently Director of the Office of Diversity for the Cleveland Clinic Health System. Before joining Cleveland Clinic, Deborah was a Professor at Cleveland State University where she was a founder and Director of the Diversity Management Program, a certificate and Master's Degree Program. She is the founder of D.L. Plummer & Associates, a consulting firm that specializes in diversity management and organizational development. In this capacity, Deborah consulted for a variety of national and local corporations including Fortune 100 companies, community mental health agencies, public and private school systems, and faith-based systems in areas of diversity management and organizational change.

Deborah is the Editor of the Handbook of Diversity Management: Beyond Awareness to Competency Based Learning (University Press of America) and author of Racing Across the Lines: Changing Race Relations through Friendships (The Pilgrim Press) which received the Mayflower Award for best publication in the category of Church and Society. In addition, she has written many book chapters and journal articles on racial identity development and managing diverse work environments. As a noted national speaker to professional communities, civic communities, colleges and faith-based groups, she is regularly featured as a guest psychologist for Cleveland News Channel 5.

As a licensed psychologist, she maintained a private practice for twenty years treating individuals, couples and families. She also served a term, by appointment of Governor Bob Taft, on the State of Ohio Board of Psychology.

Active in her civic and faith communities, Deborah has served on several boards and is a member of a host of professional and service organizations. She is currently President of the Western Reserve Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.

Deborah received her Ph.D. from Kent State University in Counseling Psychology. In addition, she is a graduate of the Post-Graduate Training Program at The Gestalt Institute of Cleveland with a specialization in working with groups, holds a Diversity Management Certificate from NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Sciences, and a Change Leadership Certificate and from Linkage, Inc., DePaul University, Chicago, IL. Her M.Ed. in Community Counseling is also from Kent State University. She received her B.A. in psychology from Notre Dame College of Ohio and has been awarded their Outstanding Alumnae Award.
