Originally the convent provided a home and workplace for immigrants from Baden, Germany, who came to Northeastern Wisconsin to settle. Maria Haus of today was known as St. Mary's Convent from the 1896 until 2001.

Maria Haus sits on 12 acres of green rolling lawns complete with fruit trees, a vineyard and wetlands. Proprietor Mary Caldwell-Pineda continues the tradition of hospitality, tranquility and a deep connection to the land established by the former occupants.
