Description

Size: 8" x 10" (framed, 12"x 14")

This photographic work is from an ongoing body of work that begins with snapshots or digital images which are digitally edited and printed in black and white. The resulting print is then copied onto 4 x 5 inch Polaroid Type 59 film. The film’s emulsion is transferred onto a gilded wooden board that is first coated with colored clay and then finished with gold leaf.

Stephen describes his work as being inspired by old photographs. They are about time, memory, change and mortality.

From edited photo to clay and gold prepared board, Steve Petegorsky's cutting edge processes evoke inevitable change. The image is reminiscent of old photographs and paintings whose original connotations alter as their surfaces deteriorate. Hence the image reflects time, memory, change and mortality.
