Description

Size: 8" x 54"

Sally Dillon creates handpainted silk scarves, clothing and quilts, drawing on geological and other patterns from nature. She has combined a lifelong interest in maps and aerial views with her full-time occupation as a fabric designer.

Dillon's designs on the handpainted silk are derived from satellite photography, hydrological studies, crosssectional maps and years of travel and observation. She stretches the fabric over a frame and draws a resist line of wax or gutta before applying the dye with watercolor brushes. The works are then dried, steamed, washed and dry cleaned before being sewn into scarves, clothing and quilts.
