Turned and Carved Spalted red Alder. Textured and sanded inside, oiled finish.

Sean Ohrenich describes this line of sculptural vessels as being as much magic as they are art and craft. The simple form is turned on a lathe and the inside of the suspended bowl is hollowed out. The rest of the wood is removed with a Fordom Flex shaft machine in a very slow process. The carved lattice is textured and sanded using this machine. Then a wipe on oil finish is applied to enhance the color and durability of the wood.

The work is calculated to draw the viewer deep inside the piece and involve them with the delicate detailing, as he is involved creating it. All of Sean's work is contemporary and very organic, yet is built on a traditional foundation. But most of all he says, "it is alive."
