Description

Size: 34" x 49" framed (painting size: 25" x 39 1/2")
Watercolor

This painting captures the beautiful sunlit glow of colored petals in exquisite detail, while also showing an abstract quality in the patterned blurring of the background and stylized rendering of the shade and shadows.

Sunlight pierces shade; intense red petals flame from a jungle of myriad greens; sharp lines edged against a soft blur of color; and above all, a photographic reality which vies with the edited reality of the artist's eye that picks and chooses from the scene.

Deborah Rubin paints in watercolor and occasionally acrylic and gouache. She has been pushing the boundaries of photo-realism and hyper-realism since the mid 1970's with an eye on nature and more recently, architecture. Born in Chicago in 1948, Rubin holds a BFA from the University of Illinois. She currently lives in Western Massachusetts.
