Owl Butterflies: The Young and the Old fortuitously captures two Owl Butterflies (Caligo eurolocus) clinging to a branch. The younger is on the left and the older on the right. Soft brown hues in their wings blend imperceptibly with the branch's bark. The striking symmetry of their mirror images is disrupted by the frayed remnants of the disintegrating wings of the aging butterfly on the right that attests to the short lifespan and fragile existence of these beautiful creatures.
Erik Rosenthal used photography to teach, lecture and illustrate medical publications as a surgeon. He photographs in retirement to paint and magnify images of nature. His pictures vividly freeze the delicate, vibrant beauty of butterflies, birds and visually appealing compositions.
Rosenthal's work combines craft with sensitive artistry. The scope, detail, and harmony of these images continue to captivate beyond first glance.
The presentation is an Iris Giclée print with Pinnacle Gold inks on William Turner 310 gsm photo rag paper. Mounted over Buffermount Archival Drymount Tissue and acid-free foam core with single mat of Alpharag Archival Mat Board.
