McGee makes tiles and functional pottery from red earthenware and paper clay. The work is decorated with expressive drawings in the clay, often loosely interpretive of surrounding fields, farmlands, and people. McGee also enjoys scratching through the slip coating while the clay is still wet and fresh. This reveals the color of the clay beneath and gives the work a primitive vitality and also an immediate connection with the clay.
