Description

This silk jacket and scarf is handpainted and created by donor Sally Dillon.

The painting on the back of the jacket depicts the Holyoke Range. Other panels show the orange and gold colors reflected in the river, ginkgo leaves from the Smith College campus, and dragonflies. The scarf has fall color maple leaves. Using the highest quality silk and colorfast dyes, Dillon stretches the fabric over a frame and draws a resist line of wax or gutta before applying the dye with watercolor brushes.
