Description

Clarence Kennedy Details from the Tomb of the Cardinal of Portugal.

This Clarence Kenney original photo depicts sculpture by Bernardo Rossellino angel from the Renaissance Chapel of the Cardinal of Portugal.

The original silver contact print mounted on a hand-made sheet with a watercolor stenciled border and with the original cover sheet as issued by Smith College in 1933.  One of the rare copies from portfolio #8 (uncompleted due to the war).

Kennedy's photos of Renaissance sculpture are celebrated worldwide.

He made many contributions to the technical advancement of photography such as 3-d, infrared, and Polaroid processes as well as refinements in reproduction printing methods. Ansel Adams was a protégée of Kennedy.


The donation also includes a copy of Out of the Cellar: A Garland for Cantina, the recently published history of Kennedy's Cantina Press, written by local bibliotect David P. Bourbeau.
