Description

Size: framed 24" x 18"

This is a stunning black-and-white woodcut depicting the Camperdown Elm on the Campus at Smith College.

It is the first in a new series Offner is beginning which will document Smith's impressive trees.

It is number 15 of 100.

Offner began his career as a print maker and book maker, with woodcuts being among his first works. His primary craft, however, is his award-winning sculpture, and he is a master of bronze casting.

He imparted his love of the craft to students at Smith College where he was a humanities professor for three decades. Offner still takes great pleasure in creating woodcuts and tries to do several a year, as it is a medium that allows him to express his love of color, nature and landscape.
