Host a summer party at this lakeside cottage on one of the cleanest lakes of Illinois, Highland Lake, in unincorporated Grayslake!
You can choose to entertain your guests with fishing from the pier, swimming and/or boating at this YWCA member's cozy, kid-friendly home. The shady deck, sunny lawn and breezy sun-room are a stone's throw away from the water edge of this private, no-motor lake, whose diameter takes about an hour to leisurely canoe. The owner will also share full use of the kitchen, living room/dining areas.
The lake is stocked for fishing; two kayaks and a paddle boat are tied to the pier; and, several safety vests, flotation toys and water guns are available in a variety of sizes. Plan a day of swimming, water-play, barbecuing and relaxing for up to ten people.
Food, beverages and child-supervision are not included, but the owner will have the cottage ready for entertaining, and will be available to help with preparations, logistics and clean-up.
Special Instructions
There is no lifeguard service. The lake is about 2 to 4 feet deep for several yards from shore but is about 40' deep in the center of the lake where a diving board raft is secured. State boating rules apply, including the requirement to wear a safety vest when in a boat. Normal, legal activity, such as adults drinking alcoholic beverages reasonably, is not restricted but all adults must sign a liability waiver, taking responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their children; Please plan to bring any desired fishing gear and bait. Fishing is good from the pier as well as from a boat. State fishing rules apply and short-term licenses are easily available. The cottage will be thoroughly vacuumed and the cat will be safely tucked out of the way, but please consider whether you or your guests are allergic to cats before casting a bid. A larger group may be accommodated with the purchase of 'special event' insurance and the agreement of homeowner. A barbecue and fire pit are available. Fire safety must be followed. The lake bottom is mushy and water moccasins are recommended.
