Description
Here the world comes to you. Serenade is set to one of the most famous-and beloved-scores to come out of 19th century Russia. The sweep and lushness of Tschaikovsky's music is matched by Balanchine's choreography. This moonlit work will transport you. It is hard to imagine any ballet more exotic than Bugaku in its depiction of formal, courtly Japanese nuptial rites. Sensuality and strict conventions combine to produce a provocative work filled with astonishing shapes, intense color and vivid beauty. NYCB is at its biggest, best, and jolliest in Union Jack --the largest work in the repertory. This ballet is a spectacle of pageantry, hornpipes, cockneys, and Merry Olde England.
