Description
Ted Williams (1918-2002) was considered one of the greatest hitters ever to play baseball. He played 19 years for the Boston RedSox interrupted by several years during his career when he volunteered to served as a fighter pilot in both WWII and the Korean War.
He won the American League batting championship 6 times and was the last major league baseball player ever to have a season batting average exceeding .400 (.406 in 1941, 66 years ago). He was voted the American League's Most Valuable Player twice and he achieved the rare triple crown twice in his career (by leading his league for the season in three different hard to accomplish categories: home runs, batting average, and runs batted in). He retired at the very old baseball age of 42 in 1960 when he hit a home run in a late season game and walked off the field.
