Description

Set of four watercolor prints from the "Porfile of Dallas" series, by the late artist Donald F. Mitchell.  This set has some of downtown Dallas' most beloved architecturally significant structures.  It includes:

1) "The Gift"- This Christmas scene depicts the prominent red brick Dallas County Courthouse in the background.  In front of it, in contradiction to size is a small but important log cabin, called Bryan Cabin.  And finally, a tiny Salvation Army collection booth in the foreground.

2) "Belo Mansion"- One of six landmarks in Dallas County listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Belo Mansion is illustrated in a stately manner.  Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, this mansion was commissioned by  Col. Alfred Horatio Belo, founder of the Dallas Morning News.

3) "Easter Sunday" - Focusing on the most important season of the year for the Christian world, the artist chose to paint Highland Park United Methodist Church at SMU campus.  This structure was chosen "to reflect upon the vital role which worship plays in the fabric of our city."

4) "Unfinished Symphony" - This is the final painting in the series and is a perspective from I-35 looking south onto the entire grouping of downtown Dallas skyscrapers.  This piece was said to accentuate the enthusiasm endorsed by the business leaders of the community....with so much room to grow.  And that it has!
