Description
This viola is etched with drawings made by fourth graders from Farmington School. Each student in her class drew pictures inspired by a trip to the “It’s About Time” concert presented by the Stockton Symphony. The drawings were then transferred to the viola by Lucy Ruth Wright Rivers to create a collage of the student’s impressions.
Lucy Ruth Wright Rivers was born in Morocco, raised in California’s Central Valley, and lives near Farmington, California. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Design from UC Davis and a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been making and exhibiting art for almost 20 years, using many different media. Her bead tapestries at art galleries across the country including Packer Schopf in Chicago and Exploding Head in Sacramento. She has created site specific stucco and mosaic work in public spaces in Davis and Sacramento. She’s inspired by plants that grow on the side of the road and by the way that children think. Her artwork explores the intersection of surface and structure and the continuum between light and none.
