Description

"Nude with Turban" harkens to another age in the world of painting. The Orient greatly attracted French artists and their collectors around the time of Napoleon. Paintings of opulent environments and doe-eyed reclining harem girls (odalisques) were popular subjects for artists such as Ingres, Delacroix, Gerome, Deschamp and David. With this work, Paul Harmon pays homage to perhaps the greatest of the odalisque artists, Jean-August-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867). Ingres never traveled to the East, but used the harem setting to conjure an erotic ideal in his voluptuous odalisques.

Paul Harmon is an internationally exhibited artist who for 11 years divided his time between Paris and Tennessee. His work is well represented in numerous galleries, museums, major corporate and private collections in Europe, Asia and the United States. He has been the recipient of many major international awards including the Prix de la Ville de Monaco and the Prix de la Societe E.J.A. at the XXIV Prix International D'Art Contemporain de Monte Carlo. His "Walking Man" was chosen by HSH Princess Caroline for her private collection.
