An acknowledged expert in American art, specifically the history of photography, Dr. Edwards has organized exhibitions, published and lectured widely on modern and contemporary artists, material, culture and photography. She has also taught these subjects at New York University, Queens College/CUNY, School of Visual Arts, New York and Vanderbilt University, where she is currently Adjunct Associate Professor. Dr. Edwards received her PhD. from the City University of New York in 1995. From 1987-1998, she was Curator at Hunter College of the City University of New York., where she originated over twenty art exhibitions. From 1998 until 2004, Dr. Edwards was Executive Director of the Katonah Museum in Katonah, NY. In 1997, Dr. Edwards was named a Founding Fellow at the Ligura Study Center for the Arts & Humanities, Genoa, Italy. She currently serves on the advisory boards of the Bogliasco Foundation, Harvard University Art Museums Collection Committee, and the Stephen Taller Archive at Harvard University.
