Description
This drawing, titled "Wine rack", was done using wax crayon and graphite on paper. Its inspiration came from an annual event called "Wine on Ice", which is held each year in Elmira, N.Y. The artist used a design pattern which is evidenced in other drawings of his, but this time it took the form of a wine rack, as seen head-on. This piece is beautifully crafted with skill. Abstractly it is an attractive, symmetrical, and colorful work of art. It's fun to see this as an abstract gem, then realize there's actually more to it than just color and form. It is, in fact, a wine rack!
Special Instructions
Drawing is 37 x 37 inches. For Allen C. Smith, drawing is a visceral experience. Sometimes it's about formality; sometimes, meditation. Either way, it's always about his need to express and expend energy from his core. Smith's abstractions are born of thoughts that come to him through the day, usually when he first wakes up. Often the thought is simply a line or a negative space that he chooses to follow with his hand.
