Description

Print of an original pastel of deceased artist John Wm. Brown, sequentially numbered 1 - 100

Print #100

John Wm. Brown played the base and many other instruments as a  musician; eventually he took the name Bill Holiday in memory of one of his favorite Billy Holiday. Bill was an artist, a musician, who made his living as an architect.

In his late forties he developed Parkinson, only to die before sixty from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS); the same disease that killed Lou Gehrig, a professional baseball player.

Can you imagine a worse end to a man whose whole world evolved around the use of his hands? No surprise that Bill left his home town of Cleveland, Ohio to live in the city that pulsed with his heart beat.

You are missed Bill Brown / Bill Holiday!

It gives us great pleasure to incorporate one of the pastels of John Wm. Brown, once sold in a well known Cleveland department store. The piece serves well as an illustration matched to the character Professor Knows-a-Lot who lives on the island of Castle Land.

Special Instructions

Professor Knows-a-Lot, a cheetah, was born without spots. Like Copycat, he'd be a high prize among hunters. Queen Mum, the eldest female stork on the island of Castle Land, mate to the Grand Marshal Patriarch of the storks, suggested to all that this little spotless cheetah might do well to stay behind on the island than venturing into the jungles of the world.

As he grew, he discovered that being different is OK. Copycat the white tiger, became friends with him; sharing what she had learned about being uniquely ‘you'. As time went by and this little cheetah grew, he learned something else: he had a good mind, giving him an advantage as a creature of the jungle. He went about learning all he could.

The more he learned, the more he realized knowledge is power. He could have gone to the Queen Mum and said, "I think I am smarter than the average hunter and I'd like to go into one of the world's jungles!" Instead he went to the Queen Mum and said, "I'd like to open a school on the island, and share all that I have learned with the little ones, especially those that must go out into the world, arming them with all that I have learned!" Queen Mum smiled. She was pleased.

It did not take long for Uncle Chelsea as he sent his youngest darlings to this school, to name this eager and wise cheetah, Professor Knows-a-Lot!
