Description
This colorful needlepoint mezuzzah was made at Yad LaKashish/Lifeline for the Old in Jerusalem. The fabric is encased in plastic and measures approximately 5.5".
Based on Rambam's (Maimonides') highest level of Tzedakah, the principle of "Helping others to help themselves," Yad LaKashish has earned worldwide recognition, prestigious awards and commendations for its innovative program.
The elderly craftspeople receive on-the-job training and supervision in producing beautiful, high quality Judaica and craft items. The work environment at Yad LaKashish is adapted to suit the capacities and limitations of each person, emphasizing the idea of acceptance of each individual, regardless of his or her difficulties.
In return for their work, the artisans at Yad LaKashish receive a monthly stipend and a wide range of social benefits including dental and eyeglass subsidies, gifts for the holidays and so much more.
The unique high quality crafts created in the various workshops are sold in the world famous Gift Shop. The sale of an item serves two functions at Yad LaKashish: first, to earn revenue that helps finance the program and secondly to provide the workers with a sense of pride for their work.
