Description

Created by local artist and Stoneleigh-Burnham School instructor Sam Pettengill, the photographer describes his work as follows:

"This picture has been made from large format 4” x 5” negative scanned into a computer and printed with an ink jet printer. The lens used to make the negative causes the optical distortion in the image. This antique lens is from the early 20th century, and has optical characteristics specific to its time that I chose to use for the picture. I hope that the photograph gives the impression of being made in another time period. I also used light blocking filters to increase exposure times for as long as an hour. The long exposure emphasizes the flow of the river and captures changing light over time. Working in late afternoon light, I wanted to imbue the picture with a brooding, moody, soft or mysterious quality."
