This handsome volume gathers selections from a diary kept by a recently married woman, written during a week-long stay at a cabin alongside remote Witipitlock Lake in northeastern Maine in October 1932. The writing is touchingly reminiscent as she describes the beauty, peace, and companionship she experienced there. This graceful tale is even more poignant because Grace Butterfield Dow became seriously ill soon after her trip and was never able to return to the lake.

The author's wide-eyed view of pristine wilderness and her deeply felt response to that experience are beautifully complemented by Beckman's exquisitely detailed wood engravings.
