Cheryl Dixon is an artist, curator and writer. A former Executive Director of the Museum of African American Art in Los Angeles and Chair of the Art Department of Dillard University in New Orleans, La., she has lectured on Public Art, and Trans African Art in the U.S. and South Africa. A Baton Rouge resident, she has documented African retentions in the culture of the Mississippi River Road. Her stencil paintings combine printmaking processes, textile patterns, and abstract expressionist influences, using movement and color to convey the healing energy of the creative endeavor, and the spiritual affects of art as process and ritual.Donated by
