Grace Hartigan Biography
GRACE HARTIGAN has been a major art world presence as an abstract expressionist painter since Twelve Americans opened at the Museum of Modern Art in 1956. She is a prolific and dedicated painter who exhibits widely in the United States and abroad. Her works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Baltimore Museum of Art, Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Carnegie/Mellon and numerous other venues. She shows regularly at the ACA Galleries in New York and Munich, and was a featured artist - with Larry Rivers, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg - in Hand Painted Pop, an exhibition which traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art in L.A.; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and the Whitney Museum. Director of MICA's Hoffberger Graduate School of Painting since its founding in 1967, Grace resides in Baltimore where she is represented by C. Grimaldis Gallery.
