Martin Kotler Biography
Martin Kotler received his BFA in Painting and Sculpture from MICA in 1975 and an MFA in Painting in 1980 from The American University. He lives in Washington, D.C. and has had solo exhibitions at several galleries there, including Anton Gallery, Fendrick Gallery, Addison/Ripley Gallery, and Hemphill Fine Arts, which represents him, as well as in New York City and Virginia. Martin also has participated in group exhibitions around the country and at the Musee Chateau Rochefort-en-Terre, France, where he was a resident artist in MICA's Alfred & Trafford Klots Artist Residency Program in Rochefort-en-Terre, France. He has taught at MICA, The American University, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Washington Studio School, and he has lectured at a number of colleges and museums. His paintings are in the collections of Harvard's Fogg Museum, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
