Betty Heald Biography
BETTY HEALD currently creates jewelry from 1/16" flat acrylic sheets. After working in precious metals for a number of years, she turned to the medium of plastics, seeking a contrast to the harsh industrial nature of the raw material through color and surface treatment. Each piece Betty creates is sanded, dyed, cut and heat formed by hand. The dye process is exclusive to the work and has been developed by Betty over the past eight years. Her work has been exhibited both in the United States and abroad, including Austria, Asia, and Germany. Betty received a BFA from the University of Nebraska and an MFA in Sculpture from Utah State University, and currently teaches part-time at MICA.
