Leonard Streckfus Biography
Leonard Streckfus has been described by art critics as "a genius of found object sculpture" and "a master of the art of assemblage." His sculptures of animals are created with wit and ingenuity. His major public commissions include the five dolphins for the National Aquarium fountain, eight animal sculptures for The Rouse Company's Cross Keys Inn, and a memorial sculpture for the Martha and Howard Head Theater at Center Stage. Additionally, he has completed numerous private commissions of horse sculptures for collectors in Maryland, Virginia, and Kentucky. Streckfus's work has been exhibited nationally and received numerous awards, including the Director's Choice Award at the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs in Louisville, where he also had a 1996 exhibit. Leonard is a graduate of MICA and has been a resident artist in the College's Alfred & Trafford Klots Artist Residency Program in Rochefort-en-Terre, France.
